Liilu
»Nostalgia«*
Here is our second favourite lookbook pick for the Playtime digital fair: Meet Liilu, the German brand that breathes softness and tranquility!
*A wistful desire to return to a former time in one’s life, to one’s home, or to one`s family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the past, its personalities, possibilities, and events, especially a »warm childhood«.
We’ve been fans of Liilu ever since their start in 2016 - not only for their relaxed and cozy collections but for their dedication to sustainability as well. All their products are made under fair working conditions in the North of Portugal and the collections are made of 100% organic cotton wool (for the winter collections).
Olhão, a historical place in southern Portugal, was the inspiration behind Liilu’s autumn/winter collection. So it seems only natural that the team decided to shoot their new lookbook in this beautiful small town where many of the old houses »wear« their colourful tiles as if they were precious garments. The washed-out, earthy colours of the old town’s architecture echo through the collection, where soft muslin meets embroideries, check patterns, and fine knits. Sibylle Pal, the brand’s founding designer, loves minimalistic design - always with special attention to details - and this is beautifully reflected in the new lookbook.
The casting is really strong - each of the four children is special and beyond cute, and they all come across like real friends who find the day’s big and small adventures behind every corner. Working mainly with natural daylight, the photographer Pepe Lobez captured many uncontrived moments of fun between them. We like the mix between wider images, showing us the amazing surroundings, and beautiful detail shots.
The layout is low-key, but consistent, and complements the relaxed style of the collection nicely, while the juxtaposition between colour with black and white images adds an interesting visual dimension.
Browsing through this lookbook, the images drenched in a lovely sunny look, next winter almost loses its chill. And even though we’re not walking the city streets ourselves, we can almost feel and smell the warm »Nostalgia« in the air. Just like the designer states: »Nostalgia motivates us to remember the past in our lives, helps to draw us closer to our authentic self, thus reminding us of who we have been and who we feel we are today. We get more sensibility of who we want to be down the road in the future.«
